Camera Obscure-Some Guys Have All The Luck
recorded in a crushed velvet covered van. brills.
great little cover diddy by one of my fav bands of the year
enjoy!

[i haven't posted music in awhile, forgive me. i have some up my sleeves but the time and true inspiration haven't bloomed. soon i promise]

and i was hoping you'd creep in...with me

Who's Have Known-Lily Allen
from It's Not Me, It's You

since apparently, the music videos i post on my blog now exclusively revolve around my feelings HAH.
i know tons of people want to KNOCK lily allen, her lyrics are really always refreshing to me. no one is really writing lyrics quite like her. she is in her 20s, she is love forelorn, the girl feels the shit of life and she sings it. this video is a nice-ish live version-other live version are kinda OBNOX-i get it why people dislike her i DO, the album version is soft and sweet but no video yet. its 3 in the morning...this is the song i am digging on. enjoy!

i didn't know where this was going..... when you kissed me

6.03.2009

you could break my heart....

Habanera-Kate Nash
not sure which album this from, but how i heart ms. nash
she is so cutesy but honest about the annoyance of mens. i am feeling this song today and those DRUMS!
if you haven't heard anything by her, start youtubin' and dling IMMEDIATELY.

i tried to talk to you
but you were looking through into the next room
there must have been something more interesting

.....that was apparent from the start

exalt and illuminate

Ghetto Love- Spinnerette
FUN VIDEO! FUNKY SONG! i love the faces coming out of her head. and the top hat. and that electric guitar. those crazy fucking psychedelic backgrounds courtesy of Liam Lynch (Mr. United States of Whatever himself...damn i love that song too).
i am screaming HEYs and doing karake kicks around my room to this, is so fun right now! try it.
seriously, go try it.

you sold your heart for the primal experience.

i know you'll fade in time

Faster- Rachel Yamagata

this is a little more acoustic than the version from her album i've been jamming to on my iPod on many a subway ride this week.
i love the tone of her crackly voice and these lyrics. the song really just captures how i have been feeling lately. i am just going faster than i have ever before. i commend ms. yamagata for this story she paints with this song. so grungy edge, angry alt grrl rock. my fav. its funny i never understood her huge cult like appeal for a long time, but anthems like this really proved me wrong. so yeah i totally dig now. enjoy!

i feel what i'm feeling, i should've been feeling it all along

i'm haunted by your eyes...

Au Revior Simone- Shadows
first single off of Still Night, Still Bright
out today
the new album is very electro. more so than their former albums. but its classic ARS. sweet and indie female vocals. albums on sale on itunes now or 7" vinyl at most indie record stores worth their weight.
i need to go one of their shows. soon. i haven't seen them live yet, and i wish i had been at this union pool show. le sigh.
damn they are a delight.

...don't blame it on your shadow....

another stand out for me, Trace a Line.

All or Nothing from the album as well. lalalalala

everywhere is somewhere baby

you're a liar and thats the truth

An Actor Out of Work- St. Vincent
from Annie Clark's new sophomoric album Actor
due out tomorrow, may 5th
its seems like such a rush after her 2007 first solo album, Marry Me, that i was absolutely obsessed with only last summer, but that album was a bit of a sleeper hit.
if you are in Austin tomorrow, go to the listening party with Camera Obscura @the Mohawk, i bet it will be major
this video is from the sxsw sessions from npr, i like it more than the refined video. i like her raw, her voice is so pure and sugar sweet and mixed with those groovy guitar rifts...you know i am sucker for that with a sprinkle of whimsically back beats. i have also heard The Strangers from the album...its great too [paint the black hole, blacker...] this is a delightful, light, not too in your face, but highly enjoyable album to start the summer's slew of indie hits.

i think i love you, i think i am mad

***UPDATE 5/9 Last night at the Bjork/Dirty Projectors show, I had the pleasure of meeting Annie. She was so sweet, she enjoyed the show as much as I. She was so cute and pretty. I definitely will be checking out her show at Webster hall on May 20, tickets aren't sold out yet, PLEASE JOIN ME!

i'd rather follow you...

Heavy Water (I'd Rather Be Sleeping)~Grouper
from their album-Dragging a Dead Deer Up a Hill

heard this on a friend's myspace page and was completely taken aback. its stunning. of course they are from portland. just as Au and the other hidden gem bands are hiding up there-cultivating the genius, all making haunting synthy indie folk. they are unsigned but touring, no current NYC dates boo! (apparently they were here in december, of course i discovered them too late) but check out their myspace.com/grouperrepuorg for shows near you, even europe. i will be scouring record stores to attain a hard copy of their vinyls. Grouper's harmonies and melodies are like someone repetitively stroking your hair because they just love you or you are sad, comforting, relaxing, affectionate, subtly plucking at your heart strings and giving you peace.

.....where the deepest currents flow

i don't like my hair neat

Tiga-Shoes
from the Ciao! album
so delicious...how do you not dance and sing along? i may try to go to their nyc show, even though i am broke.
this video is soo brills too. right!?!? i want to spend a day in it or have a party at it.
and I WANT HER headpiece...now. (clock&balls hehe)and THAT dress, it puts lady gaga's thierry mugler copies TO SHAME. its crystallizing all over the room..amazing. her hair and make-up is divine as well, i must try to copy that eye make-up soon. and of course...THOSE shoes. (i recognize them but i am not sure who they're by..)

what's that sound? i like that sound. i love that sound.
it's the sound of my shoes.

Oh yes I will, I will give it all to you

The Kooks-Sway

Say whatever you have to say, I'll stand by you

Be whoever you have to be, I won't judge ya

And take whatever you have to take, you know I love ya

i was flying back from India on gorgeous&luxurious Emirates airlines that has the most AMAZING inflight entertainment system called ICE. Millions of movies, tv and MUSIK! World music, pop music, old music, full collections of everything classic artists had EVER recorded and you can make playlists and such. AKA AMAZING, right?!? well I was watching the british indie music video channel and stumbled over this gem. The Kooks are becoming an old standby in brit/pop/indie delightfulness. i hadn't been able to check out their new album (i work too much, thus i get behind in COOL tunes) Konk&Rak (the 2cd set) is stellar. really a great spring/summer soundtrack-i suggest you go to the record store or itunes pronto. its a serious upper, happy and sing song along joyous lovely tunes...i dare you to not smile while listening!

...and I need you heart, because you're always in the right places...

applause cheer boo hiss

SPEAK TO ME BONES

Land of Talk will rock your world, if you check them out NOW! just the way they have rocked mine to the core. i even spent money to NOT download their album when i discover them at the wonderous listening earphones of new musik at the union sq Virgin (if you are a new yorker, having a bad day or just craving some new fresh tunes, hit them up....i have never NOT ONCE been disappointed or left empty handed..haha) i spent real money on a hard copy cd (and an additional one for my sister!) impressive for me who doesn't pay for musik much these days-bad me, i know! ok enough about the discovery/buyingand  more about the TUNES! land of talk hail from good old canada, montreal to be exact, that keeps churning out amazing artists. a harsh voiced yet at times so cheery, endearing, charming front lady and some super sweeeeet drum&bass backing up those delicious biting lyrics. they are huge in europe, more specifically the UK. they are out there touring now, but when they get back - check em out! i saw them last summer in brooklyn, and was mesmerized. check out their myspace for a new song (a sneak peek from hopefully upcoming album!?!?!)- Weighty Ghost by Wintersleep (very folky and super smooth, yummy) enjoy!

All My Friends- a super summer anthem!

Chloe controversy?

making the dream very attractive.
perhaps too attractive?

Fashionista and Fashion Addict have said their peace on this but i thought i'd throw in my two cents. Apparently my *beloved* H&M ripped off my *inspirational* Chloe for their Fall ad campaign.
The vid is behind-the-scenes at the Hotel Particular in Paris during the youthful Chloe shoot with Freja, Shalom and Anja.

Since I first saw the Chloe ad in Vogue, i've wanted Anja's to-die-for bob cut&coulour (and the "Vitamin" dress haha). Then picked up H&M magazine a few weeks ago, first oogled over Freja in Rome layouts (its brillant and oh so mod!) and then saw Anja's hair again, of course fell in love again. This video shows how she get her cut on the set of the campaign (i love!). As a fashion mag addict, and a bit overstimulated by style.com's instant gratification, I didn't even notice how the photos, models, stark backgrounds (and style of dresses-but that is expected-its what H&M does best) were so similiar, maybe in fact alarmingly identical. Chloe's garments are obviously higher fashion-more extraordinary, so beautiful and very mod. The model choices were a perfect (love when Shalom is in real fashion ads-she is such a unique model-, not Tiffany *puke*), the locale was so structural next to the bold colours of those dresses. H&M saw a perfect idea, decided to copy it and figured who's gonna stop us? this is perhaps crossing into a new line of fashion copyrights faux pas. obviously no legal action has begun and it is only controversy amound the fashion inclined, but what do you think?
