tickled pink
today felt like a Lilly kind of day!
The Lilly, that classic bright bold Floridian shift
changed women's fashion as we know it
I was raised on Lilly
My mother adores colour more than I do
I began reading much about Lilly Pultizer today...
she was the first 'lifestyle' brand.
she had her dressmaker in palm beach created the first shift to...
get this, conceal juice stains when she worked at the juice stand she opened
using fruit from her son's orchards
she loved her brightly coloured, flowered shifts so much, she had more made
and eventually began selling them at the stand, more than the juice! hah
jackie o. wore a Lilly in Time magazine and then women all over the country wanted one.
she caught on like wild fire
and her designs and prints are still relevant today.
W magazine's 50th anniversary article
i met Lilly once
in Palm Beach at the Lilly outlet store, she works there to keep 'young'
she was kinda pretentious and snotty
she didn't think a dress i was holding would fit me, hah
it did fit me, and looked fab
she was surprised, and shrugged
'now you should buy it'
and i did.
hah

i can let you have your way
i can let you have your say
feathers, poufy curls, mirrored rooms with abstract blocks
black&white fan, mary janes, ethereal beauty
i don't have feel your charm
charm
charm
charm
you don't have to break my arm
i don't want to hear the alarm
i decide, when i decide
i am in the mood
right now
now
[even if the truth were told
i would put it all on hold
just for another
hour in bed with you....]

Taking a picture of you...
Unzip my body
Take my heart out
been hoarding photos of Ms. Róisín Murphy
she is not only the funkiest fresh dance pop music in the world
right now
she is a fashion stylin' VISION
she has a look all her own
she reinvents herself continuously
and she is always cutting edge
everything she wears is inspiring
(and makes me green with envy)
no wonder why designers worldwide fawn over her
today begins, the 12+ days of Róisín
HOORAY!
'And if I need a rhythm
It’s gonna be to my heart I listen....'

as i walk these streets...
for years window shopping has been one of my greatest pleasures
when i would visit san francisco or other big cities
as a young bright eyed child
the fancy shop windows were perfection
my precious magazines come to life
fashion vignettes confined to the space on a long glass panel
display cases for couture dolls
style dioramas
telling a visual three-dimensional story
but the clothing was real
not just something of my dreams
emerging from the flat glossy pages
or lead sketches on paper
once i moved to new york city
these windows quickly became my old friends
who i loved to catch up with during the changing seasons
department stores, chain retailers and the luxury shops
always after a difficult day at work, i would walk down madison ave.
between 57th and 85th i was in awe
ungaro, herrera, luca luca, ysl
choo, vivier, prada, missoni
after dark, in my chic toy store
the mannequins come to life
the window light shone out
glistening gems eroding from the matte earth
other worldly galaxies
contrasted against the dark desolate streets

love lyric to a golden bird
The courage of that
Ancient man I know
Who shoved his raft
Against the virgin sea
And restless sought his destiny.
A thousand creatures in the deep
Spawned warnings.
None would he hear
Wile the soaring
Sailor's bird flew near.
The alms behind
So cool to some
Stemmed him in
Nor let the bursting heart
Within, without.
Each night he saw
A star he loved go out.
Brave stubborn twinklings
Before the long --- far --- fall
Then darkness ---
Where the light had been.
Each day the seering
Sun would singe his skin.
Orange and yellow devils
Danced on eyelids
Squinted shut with salt.
The bashing of the waves
Turned signposts in the sky
To whirling torments of
The pleasing past
False lighted
By a needled mind
Unwound.
The few that felt their
Rafts heads touch the
Sweetness of the sand
Paid for the many
Spent still ramming
At the sea.
Tomorrow's sunrise tells the
Tale of me
A new horizon
Or this endless sea.
Fly Golden Bird
Now out of sight.
Now here at hand
You company caressing.
Soar with me
And I'll go on
For home,
Too,
Harbors in
The softness of your breasts.
We love as one
The land beyond the sun
And know some find it.

bring it back
sing it back
bring it back
sing it back to me
lanvin spring/summer 2010
diaphanous noir
gossamer angel wings
a translucent window paned back
continuing the traditions of attention to details
trimmings and layers
the oldest fashion house
with mr. elbaz' eye
sees sensuality in the exact place
where i too prefer to find it
showcasing scapulas
'And when you come back
I'll be as you want me.......'
[moloko lyrics to emphasize the beauty]
