Moschino girl at HEART

recently over drinks with fashion friends
we all were trying to identify the fashion house that best
personifies us, is our style in all of their collections
in style, colour, cut, shape, etc. etc.
i struggled with putting myself into just one house, into one box if you will
i find my style ever changing and versatile, very dynamic, diverse
my dear friend A said, without hesitation, "You're a Moschino girl! of course"
For a moment, I looked at him boogled.
I thought to myself, 'No way, I don't conform'
But then I thought about it...
and thought about...
and mused some more over at style.com, especially Moschino's recent showing~

the colours, the retro styles/cuts, the jewelry (mod and chunky)
mismatched amazing patterns, centers of attention, pieces people talk about as they walk by
statement fashion, feminine but bold, pop art inspired but still elegant and refined
youthful but mature
aka SO ME.
so just when i was embracing this revelation
I saw these chairs, Mademoiselle Moschino had designed for Phillip Stark's Kartell designer series
and I died.

they're delicious, girly and yet still classic
versatile, will work in any apartment from a teenager to 20something to grown woman at her den desk working....


Oh Moschino we are a match made in heaven....

today felt like a Lilly kind of day!
The Lilly, that classic bright bold Floridian shift
changed women's fashion as we know it
I was raised on Lilly
My mother adores colour more than I do
I began reading much about Lilly Pultizer today...
she was the first 'lifestyle' brand.
she had her dressmaker in palm beach created the first shift to...
get this, conceal juice stains when she worked at the juice stand she opened
using fruit from her son's orchards
she loved her brightly coloured, flowered shifts so much, she had more made
and eventually began selling them at the stand, more than the juice! hah
jackie o. wore a Lilly in Time magazine and then women all over the country wanted one.
she caught on like wild fire
and her designs and prints are still relevant today.

i met Lilly once
in Palm Beach at the Lilly outlet store, she works there to keep 'young'
she was kinda pretentious and snotty
she didn't think a dress i was holding would fit me, hah
it did fit me, and looked fab
she was surprised, and shrugged
'now you should buy it'
and i did.
hah

i love the retro high waisted shorts-skirt? and the bra top.
and that lovely gray Prada bag for a picnic (aka a bottle of wine)....
such a lovely day outside in nyc...and such a lovely outfit i wish i had.

italian nostaglia

some vintage prada for you to feast on. the deep jewel tone colours, the ethnic prints. sheen of the fabrics, the box shift dress shape, strappy interesting shoes, the hot pants (short shorts?), cinched belted waists, turbans. all so now, so relevant. so retro. so easy to re-interpret and make your own. this summer is all about those legs. i am so inspired by these images...more from this collection. it really was phenomenal. it moves me. (unfortunately in the shopping direction, fortunately into some new styles)
